Go out the East exit of JR Ebisu station and head for east. After enjoying tasty food on Shinbashi Gourmet Street, take a stroll around the Shirokane-kitasato street where you find many old-fashioned shops. Final part of the Osampo, we will go up and down the hill to visit the high-end residential area on the top of the Shirokane hill.

Going out the East exit of JR Ebisu station
, go down on the escalator in front and you’ll see the Higashiguchi Park. Then go down the underground stairs on your right, you’ll get to the ground floor. Go straight and you’ll get to the five-forked intersection. Go diagonally through the street between the Bikkurizushi and Renoir and you’ll find SUBARU STAR SQUARE
, the showroom of the Subaru headquarters on your right. It is the irresistible place for the car lovers and you can enter the building freely. After visiting the showroom, go straight on and you’ll get to Shinbashi Gourmet Street
where you find many small but unique eating places. There are some popular shops like MERCER bis Ebis and Jyuban-Ukyo. Drop in at any interesting places as you like. Go across the Ebisu 2-chome intersection, take right at the forked street, there is a Toyosawa Children’s Playground. It is a small park where you can take a rest and have some refreshments from the vending machine. After visiting the park, go to the right along the street. Passing the Toyosawa church, when street gets narrower you’ll suddenly hit the Gaien-Nishi-Dori Avenue where metroplolitan expressway runs. Across the street, there is the Shirokane Kitasato Shopping Street
. It is a folksy shopping street which has a nostalgic scent of Showa era and from here the address changes from Ebisu, Shibuya-ward to Shirokane, Minato-ward. Passing the café on your left and enter the narrow alley, you’ll get to the area where there are many small workshops and studios. Interior goods shop, OUR FAVORITE SHOP is there, too. After enjoying shopping, we’ll go back to the main street.Hard ware shop , SATO EIJIRO Store, is in front of Kitasato University campus. Corner ahead is the bottom of the Shokko-zaka Slope
.Going straight ahead, we’ll get to the Shirokane-takanawa station, but let’s take some time to go up the slope. Going up the Shokko-zaka slope along the brick wall of Sacred Heart School,Tokyo, we’ll reach the back of the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo. Keep walking till we get to the top of the Sanko-zaka Slope
where we find ourselves in the high-end residential area. Going down the slope, we’ll be back at the Shirokane-kitasato Street. Go to the right, there is the Shirokane-Hikawa Shrine
. We’ll visit this shrine which is surrounded with lushly green and silence. It makes us to forget that we are in the middle of metropolis Tokyo. Leaving the shrine, go toward right, we’ll reach the Shirokane-takanawa station
on the subway.

Ebisu Station START
JR Yamanote line, East Exit Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, No. 1 Exit
JR Yamanote line station. Saikyo line and Shonan-Shinjuku line also stop at this station. There is a subway station for Hibiya line near the West exit of the station. JR East Exit and West Exit are connected with the station building “Atre”. This station was built 120 years ago as the freight station for Nippon Beer Jozo Co., Ltd (current Sapporo Breweries Ltd.) to ship Ebisu beer. It is the popular station in Tokyo where various attractive spots and shops gather. Accessibility is also good that you can walk to other stations.

Shinbashi Gourmet Street
Exciting eating places attracts foodies
Ebisu Shinbashi Shoueikai (Gourmet Street) is an old shopping street located at the east side of the Ebisu station. Recently focused “Oku-Ebisu” is a unique area where quaint old -fashioned and new fashionable shops and restaurants are there. Many specialty restaurants are attracting people such as restaurants specializing in Kyoto style home cooking deli, Chinese soup dumplings, garlic, potato, etc. So, people started to call the street “Gourmet Street”. Some may think it strange that the name Shinbashi is used though it is located in Ebisu. It was named after the Shinbashi Bridge over the Shibuya River near the street.
The official name is Ebisu Shinbashi Shoeikai. It was named “Shinbashi Gourmet Street” by the open call.

Shirokane Kitasato Shopping Street
Street harmonizing Showa nostalgia and modernismv
Kitasato University stands as the landmark on the shopping street with over 60 shops. It amazes you to see some old-fashioned shops built shortly after the war and their old-fashioned business style. SATO EIJIRO Store
Customer-first traditional hardware shop
Opened in1926. Third-generation owner, Nobuhiro Sato, insists that the advantage of the private store is to meet the needs of each customer. He will give advices about the kind of tool and material they need and if necessary, he will visit the customer to give instructions. “That is the priceless service private stores can provide to the customers”, says Mr. Sato. Traditional shops with warm humane business remain on the street. As the chairman of the shopping street union, Mr. Sato says they will try to keep protecting the traditional ways and, at the same time, challenge for new approaches to become a vibrant shopping street.

Shokko-zaka Slope
Quiet slope along the brick wall
Upslope at the west side of Sacred Heart School, Tokyo, along the long brick wall of the school. Beyond the wall is the school campus with beautiful green trees. The other side of the slope, there is a stylish residential area. Narrow street with less traffic gives you time to enjoy relaxing stroll. This hill used to be called Shokkodai named after the city Shokko in China famous for its beautiful colored autumn leaves. Climbing to the top of the slope, we will get to the back of The Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo.
Quiet Shokko-zaka. You see pedestrians only time to time.
Red wall and deep green trees are beautiful.
Be aware that no entry is allowed to Sacred Heart School campus.

Sanko-zaka Slope
Historical slope connecting high-end residential area and temple town
There is a high-end residential area with large residences at the east side of Sacred Heart School. Sanko-zaka slope leads down to the Shirokane Kitasato shopping street. Long wall of former residence of Kintaro Hattori continues on the right side of the slope. Kintaro Hattori is the founder of Hattori Watch Store (current Seiko Holdings) and his huge residence built in 1933 still remains. Unfortunately, it is obscured by the giant tree. There is a large temple Senshinji at the foot of the slope. The name came from the three-leafed pine tree which resembles the Buddhist alter fitting.

Shirokane Hikawa Shrine
The Oldest shrine in Minato-ward where you can get Goshuin(Red stamp book)
Founded in the Hakuho year (672~686). It was built as the guardian god shrine for Shirokane village over 1300 years ago and is the oldest shrine in Minato-ward. The main building was burnt down in the air raid and rebuilt in 1958. There are two subordinate shrines within the precincts, Inari shrine on the right and Kenmu shrine on the left. It is said that divine virtues of the shrine are good luck, keep off evils and prosperous business. Annual festival is held on Mid of September and once three years, its portable shrine parades around.
